Beaches
With the passage of millennia and erosion, the Betanzos estuary has a horn to the north that begins in a forest that leads to a river, and grows larger as it moves between a bridge and a medieval city to open to the sea and chimpanzee. And on that road that goes from Pontedeume to Ponte do Porco, it leaves a small inland coast with a dozen of those coves that, if it weren't for the time of these barbarian lands, would be crowded in summer like terraces.
From north to south, we have Centroña beach, known as "Cala Hawai", ideal for walking while looking at the other side of the estuary; Ber, Paredes, hidden and with difficult access, is perfect for those melancholic afternoons to watch the sunset; do Coído beach, wild, made of rocks and boulders and with difficult access; Insua beach, a tiny nudist cove protected from the winds by rock walls, highly valued by the locals as their personal corner; Perbes, a family one (there is a nearby campsite) ideal for playing with children; Lago beach, small and with little waves; the sandy area of Miño, with the marshes of the Baxoi river behind you; Sumiño beach, in the same locality but closer; and the Alameda, in Ponte do Porco, quiet, ideal for strolling at low tide.
O Paxaxe do Pedrido
Two beaches (of the estuary) divided by a historic bridge (by Eduardo Torroja and César Villaba) where the Galician mountains end on the beach. In the hours of low tide it becomes a walk of more than two kilometers linking different towns and villages of the convoluted silhouette of the high estuaries.
Cabañas Beach
Cabañas is one of those beaches that are called inland because they are sheltered from the estuary. Its location means that it has little waves and spectacular views of the estuary. In addition, surrounding the beach is a magnificent pine forest, which makes it a frequent destination for families and groups on weekends as it is perfect to enjoy a meal in the shade and then take a bath on the beach.
Another point in its favor is that it is one of the few beaches in the area that preserves "chiringuitos", or restaurants where you can eat, have a soft drink or ice cream.
Behind the pine forest there are quite a few parking lots, on a summer Sunday there may be quite a few cars but in general it is easy (and free) to park.
If you come here in winter or on a day when it's not hot, La Magdalena is also an ideal beach to go for a walk or for a walk, both along the shore and through the pine forest.
